Max Knoop was born in Frankfurt am Main and works as a cinematographer, director, and photographer. After studying philosophy at Goethe University Frankfurt for several semesters, he joined The School of Life in Berlin, where he contributed to content development and the production of video, image, and text. After assisting Sophie Brown on a wildlife photography program in South Africa for seven months, he pursued cinematography studies at filmArche Berlin, graduating in 2024. The following year, he completed a one-year masterclass in directing. His interest in literature and psychoanalysis plays an essential role in his artistic approach. His work has taken him to South Africa, Canada, Brazil, France, England, and Italy, as well as to the USA, Ukraine, and Switzerland. Recently, he completed the film Carin Grudda – Zwischen den Welten (digital and 16mm) and is currently working on his first feature-length film, Traverse. He’s fluent in German, English and French, lives in Berlin.
